Illuvium Reveals Plans for AI-Driven NPCs Through Partnership with Virtuals Protocol

Ethereum-based gaming franchise Illuvium has announced a collaboration with Virtuals Protocol to integrate AI agents into its non-playable characters (NPCs).

This initiative aims to improve gameplay through the use of Virtuals’ proprietary G.A.M.E large language model framework, which has gained traction in recent weeks due to its accessibility for AI agent creation.

The partnership will see the implementation of AI technology across all three of Illuvium’s upcoming titles—Overworld, Arena, and Zero. Each game spans different genres, including open-world survival, auto-battling, and city-building.

The Overworld game, in particular, is expected to be the first to showcase this technology, enhancing the dynamics of questing, storytelling, and NPC interactions.

Illuvium's co-founder, Kieran Warwick, acknowledged existing concerns regarding gameplay and outlined plans to streamline the franchise’s focus. In a recent blog post, he stated that the development team will prioritize one game at a time and aims to reduce microtransactions.

The goal is to rework Overworld into a more accessible experience akin to a massively multiplayer online game, or "MMO lite."

Ether Mage, co-founder of Virtuals Protocol, emphasized the potential of the partnership, highlighting its role in shaping the future of gaming through AI-driven experiences. The Virtuals token (VIRTUAL) has recently seen a surge of 117% in value over the last month, currently priced at $3.74.
