While acknowledging that rollups are the "gold standard," Buterin believes Plasma is an "underrated design space" that has the potential to significantly improve security, especially for chains that might otherwise use validiums.&nbsp;
He sees various technological approaches being incorporated into the evolving layer 2 ecosystem.
