Celestia and Polygon Labs have partnered to integrate Celestia’s data availability layer with Polygon’s Chain Development Kit. 
This <a href="https://www.theblock.co/post/267170/celestia-to-integrate-data-availability-layer-with-polygon-cdk?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.theblock.co/post/267170/celestia-to-integrate-data-availability-layer-with-polygon-cdk?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social" target="_blank" rel="noopener">partnership</a> marks a step in advancing the capabilities of Layer 2 projects like OKX, Immutable, Astar, IDEX, and Palm Network, which are part of Polygon 2.0 – an ecosystem designed for inter-operating Layer 2 chains.

Layer 2 networks, mainly those built using Polygon’s CDK, utilize <a href="https://crypto.news/learn/zero-knowledge-proofs-explained-proving-you-know-a-secret-without-sharing-it/" data-type="link" data-id="https://crypto.news/learn/zero-knowledge-proofs-explained-proving-you-know-a-secret-without-sharing-it/">zero-knowledge</a> rollup technology. This method involves aggregating transactions off-chain and consolidating them on the mainnet. Data availability verification is key to this process, which ensures all network participants can access and validate data stored off-chain. 
However, a challenge presents itself with Ethereum, the underlying platform for many of these chains. Ethereum (<a href="https://crypto.news/price/ethereum/" data-type="link" data-id="https://crypto.news/price/ethereum/">ETH</a>) lacks a specific execution environment for its <a href="https://polygon.technology/blog/polygon-labs-doubles-down-on-ethereum-data-availability-roadmap-spins-off-avail" data-type="link" data-id="https://polygon.technology/blog/polygon-labs-doubles-down-on-ethereum-data-availability-roadmap-spins-off-avail" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Data Availability</a> (DA) layer, leading to nodes having to process and store data on-chain indefinitely. This results in higher gas fees for Layer 2 solutions. 
Celestia’s (<a href="https://crypto.news/price/celestia/" data-type="link" data-id="https://crypto.news/price/celestia/">TIA</a>) approach brings a data availability solution. It offers storage bandwidth to multiple <a href="https://crypto.news/paving-the-path-to-mainstream-adoption-a-layer-2-leaders-vision/" data-type="link" data-id="https://crypto.news/paving-the-path-to-mainstream-adoption-a-layer-2-leaders-vision/">Layer 2</a> networks simultaneously, allowing networks to operate light nodes. This method streamlines DA verification without overwhelming the network. 
“Combined with interoperability and unified liquidity provided by Polygon 2.0, Celestia’s out-of-the-box solution will make creating new L2 chains as simple and affordable as deploying a <a href="https://crypto.news/tag/smart-contract/" data-type="link" data-id="https://crypto.news/tag/smart-contract/">smart contract</a>,” Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal said in a release.
