ZKsync Association will mark a major event in the crypto community next week by distributing 3.675 billion ZK tokens to early users and adopters of the Ethereum Layer 2 network.

This airdrop accounts for 17.5% of the total supply of 21 billion ZK tokens. According to ZKsync, the tokens will be available to claim starting next week and the deadline to claim will be January 3, 2025. Participants can start submitting requests starting June 24.
Distribution and Management
49.1% of the total token supply will be distributed through various ecosystem initiatives, while 17.2% will be allocated to investors and 16.1% to the Matter Labs team.
“Giving more tokens in the airdrop than given to the Matter Labs team and investors is more than a symbolic decision for the community,” the ZKsync Association said.
“When the ZKsync governance system launches in the coming weeks, the community will have the largest supply of liquid tokens to drive protocol governance upgrades.”

Eligibility and Allocation
ZKsync listed 695,232 wallets for the airdrop based on a snapshot taken on March 24, 2024. Airdrop is divided into two categories:
Users (89%) and contributors (11%). Users are those who meet a certain threshold of activity on ZKsync, while contributors include developers, researchers, and community members who actively support the ecosystem.
Additional Allocations
The remaining community allocation will be managed by the ZKsync Foundation and distributed over time through ecosystem initiatives and the ZK Nation governance process.
Experimental communities, including wallets that engage in certain activities in decentralized social networks and NFT projects, will receive slightly less than half a percent of the supply.
Token Vesting and Locking
ZK tokens allocated to investors and the Matter Labs team will be locked for the first year and then gradually unlocked over the next three years, from June 2025 to June 2028.
