The Republican National Committee (RNC) in the United States has officially included cryptocurrency support in its policy platform, reflecting the views of frontrunner Donald Trump. According to an update on Trump's campaign website, the RNC’s platform highlights cryptocurrencies as a way to “champion innovation” in the U.S. economy, opposing the creation of a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) and defending the right to mine Bitcoin, according to <a href="https://cointelegraph.com/news/republican-party-crypto-policy-platform-trump" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Cointelegraph</a>.
The platform, which aims to counter what Republicans describe as an “unlawful” crackdown on crypto by Democrats, emphasizes ensuring Americans’ rights to self-custody of digital assets and free transactions without government surveillance.
This policy shift comes ahead of the RNC's national convention, scheduled for July 15-18, where Trump is expected to be nominated for U.S. President. The GOP's crypto stance aligns with Trump's recent shift to accepting crypto contributions for his campaign and advocating for Bitcoin mining within the U.S.
This development marks a significant change from Trump’s previous skepticism about cryptocurrencies. The influence of Trump's daughter Lara, who co-chairs the RNC, is suggested as a factor in this policy change.
