In a watershed moment, the DAO overseeing the Arbitrum ecosystem is poised to decide on expanding Orbit chains beyond Ethereum. Proposed by the Arbitrum Foundation, this initiative aims to integrate Orbit Chains into other blockchain networks such as Bitcoin, Binance Smart Chain, and Cosmos. By convention, this program has been confined only to blockchains whose security is derived from Ethereum—normally Layer 2 blockchains. The proposed expansion would entail many other blockchain networks like Bitcoin, Binance Smart Chain, and Cosmos. This strategic shift underlines Arbitrum’s commitment to fostering innovation and expanding its technological reach.

These will be the chains developed using Arbitrum’s software stack, offering flexibility to the developer for customization according to the requirements of that chain. This entails configuring transaction throughput, gas tokens, governance structures, and many more; usually, they are set to settle directly on Ethereum to derive its high level of security and decentralisation.

Assuming the new proposal is accepted, Orbit chains will be deployed on other blockchain networks. The development will grant extra flexibility and usability for Orbit chains, letting them run on various blockchain ecosystems apart from Ethereum. Suppose this happens with the addition of networks like Bitcoin, Binance Smart Chain, or <a href="https://www.binance.com/en-NG/square/post/522645174001" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Cosmos</a>. In that case, there may be an inflow of greater project variety and developers who could help boost Arbitrum Foundation.

In return, orbit chains are designed to take 10% of the profits to share with the Arbitrum ecosystem, thus creating a two-way financial model that benefits projects and the community of Arbitrum alike. The revenue-sharing mechanism drives the development and deployment of Orbit chains for the ecosystem’s growth. Moreover, this extension is expected to further foster the already realized dominance of the EVM and its upgrade, Stylus EVM+. This further enhances Orbit chains’ interoperability and functionality, making them more appealing to developers and projects. 
This development of Orbit chains beyond Ethereum has key strategic implications for the Arbitrum ecosystem. Integrating multiple blockchains would enhance technological versatility and reach for an Arbitrum-based product. The move will likely bring a more diversified range of projects, accelerating innovation and experimentation within the ecosystem. At the same time, enriched support for multiple blockchain networks could make Arbitrum one of the major forces in the blockchain industry, leading it through growth and influence.

Preliminary voting results are showing massive support for expansion at the moment. So far, more than 99% of the votes cast back the Orbit chain’s deployment on different blockchain networks.
