Genesis Digital Assets Limited (GDA), a leading player in the Bitcoin mining industry, has embarked on an innovative project in Norsjö, Sweden, that transforms waste heat from Bitcoin mining into a valuable resource for heating.
In collaboration with Swedish firm Muttern Fastigheter, GDA is using the excess heat generated by one of its data centers to warm a local garage. This partnership marks a significant step forward in the quest for energy efficiency within the cryptocurrency sector, according to <a href="https://news.bitcoin.com/ru/kompaniya-genesis-digital-assets-po-dobiche-bitkoinov-zapuskaet-proekt-po-pererabotke-tepla-v-shvetsii/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Bitcoin.com</a>.
Harnessing Heat for Community Benefit
Genesis Digital Assets, which operates 20 data centers with a total hashrate capacity of 600 megawatts (MW) and over 180,000 mining rigs, has devised a plan to utilize the waste heat produced by its operations. By redirecting this excess energy, GDA is able to supply 90,000 cubic meters of hot air per hour at a temperature of 52°C to a 1,200-square-meter garage. This innovative approach addresses a critical need in Västerbotten County, where temperatures can fall as low as -25°C during winter months.
Abdumalik Mirakhmedov, Executive Chairman of GDA, commented on the project, stating, "Our initiative to use surplus computational heat for warming a large garage space exemplifies how the Bitcoin mining industry can contribute positively to local communities. We are excited to lead such initiatives that demonstrate the potential of mining byproducts to serve the public good."
Commitment to Sustainability and Renewable Energy
This creative solution is powered entirely by renewable energy from the nearby Vargfors Hydropower Plant, underscoring GDA's commitment to sustainable practices and community engagement. Completed in less than 45 days, the project highlights how technological advancements in Bitcoin mining can offer practical benefits to society.
Mirakhmedov added, "We are proud to pioneer these efforts, as they reinforce GDA's leadership in sustainability and highlight how the byproducts of Bitcoin mining can be repurposed for societal benefit."
Setting New Standards for the Industry
The success of this project has inspired local officials to consider similar solutions for other municipal buildings. GDA and Muttern Fastigheter view this partnership as a prototype for future endeavors that could establish new standards in the industry for the environmentally conscious reuse of excess energy.
This announcement comes on the heels of another notable project by Bitcoin mining company MARA, which is utilizing mining-generated heat to warm a town of over 11,000 residents in Finland.
