Eric Trump, Executive Vice President of the Trump Organization and son of US Presidential candidate Donald Trump, has hinted at an imminent, significant announcement for the crypto sector on Tuesday. In a post on X, Eric Trump expressed a newfound passion for the industry: “I have truly fallen in love with Crypto / DeFi. Stay tuned for a big announcement…@Trump @realDonaldTrump @DonaldJTrumpJr”. 
This revelation was swiftly <a href="https://x.com/DonaldJTrumpJr/status/1820916519682912533" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">echoed</a> by his older brother, Donald Trump Jr., who amplified the excitement with his post: “Big things coming. This is the future!!!” At press time, it was not clear what the announcement could be about.

These teasers come on the heels of Donald Trump’s participation at the Bitcoin 2024 conference where he pledged to <a href="https://bitcoinist.com/donald-trumps-appearance-at-2024-bitcoin-conference/" target="_blank" rel="noopener ">establish</a> a “strategic national Bitcoin stockpile” with the coins confiscated by the US government. 
Prior to the conference, there were <a href="https://bitcoinist.com/elon-musk-bitcoin-laser-eyes-trump-btc-2024/" target="_blank" rel="noopener ">strong rumors</a> that Tesla CEO Elon Musk could speak alongside Trump at the conference. However, the rumor didn’t materialize. But, it seems that there was something true about this. Donald Trump and Elon Musk will do a “major interview” on Monday night, as announced via X. 
David Bailey, organizer of the conference and a Bitcoin advisor to Trump, <a href="https://x.com/DavidFBailey/status/1820902823401324563" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">commented</a> today via X: “What could have been unburdened by what is.” X user SheBytes asked Bailey directly: “So Elon was the special guest that never materialized?” However, Bailey didn’t answer at press time, leaving many to ponder the implications of what was anticipated versus what is now planned for the interview. 
Amidst this backdrop of high expectations and major announcements, the Trump <a href="https://bitcoinist.com/trump-new-djt-memecoin-solana/" target="_blank" rel="noopener ">memecoin DJT</a>, which was launched in June on the Solana blockchain amid speculative ties to Barron Trump, saw a catastrophic price drop yesterday. The massive sell-off is attributed by some to a “rug pull” by developers associated with the project. 
Remarkably, this sudden crash occurred just weeks after controversies over the coin’s alleged connections to the former president, which were vigorously denied by his representatives. TylerD, a popular crypto analyst on X, drew connections between these developments. 
“Eric Trump says he has fallen in love with Crypto / DeFi . And teases a big announcement coming. Interestingly, this comes within 24 hours of the DJT token rugging. A new Trump token incoming?” the analyst <a href="https://x.com/Tyler_Did_It/status/1820926177088872648" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">remarked</a>. His commentary highlights the timing of Eric Trump’s announcement relative to the DJT debacle, stirring speculations about whether the forthcoming announcement might involve launching a new Trump-affiliated cryptocurrency. 
At press time, DJT traded at $0.00051, down more than -98% from its all-time high.
