Stuart Alderoty, the Chief Legal Officer at Ripple, has asked Vice President Kamala Harris to act against what he sees as SEC’s unfair treatment of the crypto industry.&nbsp;
On X, Alderoty said, “If this Admin is serious about a ‘reset,’ it must act NOW to end the SEC’s misguided war on crypto.”
This request comes after a recent court decision in Ripple’s legal battle with the SEC. Ripple was <a href="https://www.cryptotimes.io/2024/08/08/judge-orders-ripple-labs-to-pay-125m-in-sec-case/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">fined $125 million</a> for not registering XRP token sales to institutional investors, but this is much less than the $2 billion the SEC originally wanted. Alderoty sees this as a win for the entire crypto industry.
Moreover, Vice President Harris has been making efforts to engage with the crypto community. Her campaign recently joined a crypto roundtable organized by <a href="https://www.cryptotimes.io/2024/08/09/crypto-leaders-and-u-s-officials-discuss-regulatory-changes/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna</a>, and the ongoing Crypto4Harris town hall event continues to show her interest in connecting with cryptocurrency supporters.
Paul Grewal, Chief Legal Officer at Coinbase, has highlighted that Harris’s campaign could bring a new perspective to how the government handles crypto regulations, possibly creating a better environment for the industry.
However, not everyone is confident about Harris’s approach. Charles Hoskinson, founder of Cardano, has expressed doubts. He believes that the promised “crypto reset” may not happen and that voting for Harris could hurt the American crypto industry.
