Jeremy Siegel, a professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, has&nbsp;<a style="text-decoration:none" href="https://nypost.com/2024/08/05/business/calls-grow-for-emergency-interest-rate-cut-by-fed/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">called</a> for a substantial reduction in the Federal Reserve’s interest rates.&nbsp;
Siegel recommends an immediate emergency cut of 75 basis points in the Fed funds rate, with an additional 75 basis point cut to be signaled for the upcoming September meeting.

These proposed cuts are significantly larger than the typical adjustments seen in recent years, reflecting the urgency Siegel sees in addressing economic challenges. If implemented, these measures could lower borrowing costs, stimulate investment, and provide a boost to consumer spending.

Siegel isn’t concerned that an emergency cut will send the markets into a downward spiral. In fact, he thinks the market will welcome the cuts and “rips higher.”&nbsp;

Average hourly earnings grew by 3.6% year-over-year, the slowest pace in three years, further highlighting a weakening labor market.
