The scam involved altered videos of Cook, who appeared to endorse the giveaways during the live event. This incident marks a concerning escalation in the use of deep fake technology for financial fraud.</p> 
<p>The scammers targeted the iPhone 16 launch, knowing the event would draw millions of viewers. By impersonating Apple CEO Tim Cook, they aimed to lend credibility to their fake giveaways.
