Reports are circulating that the U.S. government has applied pressure on the Nigerian government to release a detained Binance employee, citing deteriorating health conditions and the lack of proper medical care. 
The U.S. government, concerned about the well-being of Gambaryan, a Binance employee who has been detained in Nigeria since February, is urging for his release. Citing his worsening health due to malaria and complications from a herniated disc, U.S. officials have made several appeals to Nigerian authorities, emphasizing the urgency of his condition.

According to two senior State Department officials, U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken raised the issue of Gambaryan‘s detention with the Nigerian Foreign Minister in May. Furthermore, U.S. diplomats, including the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, have been pressing for Gambaryan’s release in private meetings with Nigerian officials, including the President, Finance Minister, Attorney General, and Trade Minister. 
Gambaryan, now 40 years old, has reportedly suffered severe health deterioration since his detention. Despite repeated pleas from his family and U.S. officials, Gambaryan has not received adequate medical treatment, putting his life at further risk.

Since June, the U.S. State Department has been advocating for Gambaryan’s release on humanitarian grounds, but Nigerian officials have yet to take action. While U.S. diplomats continue to emphasize the urgency of the situation, Gambaryan’s supporters have criticized the U.S. government for not doing enough to secure his freedom. 
In an interview ahead of a planned visit by Nigerian officials to the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Gambaryan’s wife, Yuki, expressed her frustration with the U.S. government’s handling of the situation. She warned, “I will be deeply disappointed if the U.S. government welcomes the Nigerian delegates with open arms,” highlighting the personal toll the ordeal has taken on the family.
