The Bhutanese government has significantly increased its <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/rising-mining-difficulty-squeezes-bitcoin-miners-sparks-accumulation-among-whales/">Bitcoin holdings</a> through Druk Holdings, the state-owned investment company. As of September 2024, the country holds 13,029 BTC, valued at approximately $754.54 million. This data was confirmed by Arkham Intelligence, which for the first time disclosed Bhutan's Bitcoin addresses. 
This amount makes Bhutan one of the largest government holders of Bitcoin in the world, ranking fourth globally by cryptocurrency reserves. Notably, unlike other countries, Bhutan acquires its Bitcoin solely through mining and uses carbon-neutral methods for this. This eco-friendly approach is enabled by Bhutan’s abundant hydropower resources.
