Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has once again expanded its Bitcoin holdings, purchasing 108 BTC for 1 billion yen ($6.7 million). This move marks the latest in a series of acquisitions aimed at increasing the firm’s strategic Bitcoin reserves.

With this latest purchase, Metaplanet’s total Bitcoin holdings have reached 639 BTC, valued at approximately $40.6 million at current market prices. The Tokyo-listed company announced that the average price for its most recent Bitcoin acquisition was 9.19 million yen ($61,880) per BTC. Across all its purchases, the firm has acquired Bitcoin at an average price of 9.32 million yen ($62,789) per BTC. 
<h2 id="steady-accumulation-of-bitcoin-as-a-strategic-asset">Steady Accumulation of Bitcoin as a Strategic Asset</h2> 
Metaplanet has been steadily accumulating Bitcoin as a strategic reserve asset since earlier this year. The firm’s buying spree began in May, and this latest acquisition follows another purchase just one week ago, when Metaplanet bought 107 BTC for 1 billion yen.

In addition to these purchases, the company reported that it recently earned 24 BTC, equivalent to $1.52 million, by selling Bitcoin options and collecting premiums to grow its crypto reserves. 
<h2 id="bitcoin-and-metaplanet-s-shares-surge-together">Bitcoin and Metaplanet’s Shares Surge Together</h2> 
Bitcoin’s performance has also been strong, rising by 2.84% in the last 24 hours to reach $63,970 after briefly nearing $60,000 last week. Reflecting this, Metaplanet’s shares have also risen, increasing by 11% to 1,017 yen on Monday. On the same day, Japan’s Nikkei 225 index rose by 2.2%. 
According to BitcoinTreasuries data, MicroStrategy, led by <a href="https://www.turkishnyradio.com/michael-saylor-expands-1b-bitcoin-holdings-amid-uncertainty/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michael Saylor</a>, remains the largest institutional holder of Bitcoin, with 252,220 BTC. Marathon Digital follows with 26,842 BTC. 
Metaplanet’s continued investment in Bitcoin underscores its confidence in the long-term potential of the world’s largest cryptocurrency, both as a reserve asset and as a source of revenue through financial instruments like options.
