The Russian Ministry of Energy has initiated a proposal to disconnect <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/cryptocurrency-miners-strike-gold-with-record-13-9b-net-profit/">cryptocurrency miners</a> from the power grid during peak energy consumption. This measure aims to prevent overloading the power system and potential blackouts in several regions. 
According to the ministry, in regions like <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/irkutsk-governor-calls-for-tighter-crypto-mining-regulations-amid-tax-shortfalls-and-energy-crisis/">Irkutsk</a> and Buryatia, <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/minnesota-man-faces-accusations-of-electricity-theft-for-bitcoin-mining/">electricity</a> consumption by miners has increased by 160% over the past year, posing a risk of power shortages. The proposed changes could reduce the grid load by $1.7 billion annually and ensure stable electricity supply for residents and industrial enterprises. 
The initiative suggests creating a separate consumer category for <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/hut-8s-q2-2023-a-bitcoin-mining-marvel/">crypto miners</a> with the possibility of temporary limitation or disconnection from the grid. The new regulations are expected to come into effect early next year after coordination with regional authorities and energy companies.
