Mining company <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/riot-platforms-to-boost-efficiency-with-midas-immersion-coolings/">Riot</a> Platforms continues to expand its largest mining facility in Rockdale, <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/texas-residents-challenge-bitcoin-mining-industrys-impact-on-power-grid-and-communities/">Texas</a>, which now consumes 450 megawatts (MW) of <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/minnesota-man-faces-accusations-of-electricity-theft-for-bitcoin-mining/">electricity</a>. This amount of energy is sufficient to power approximately 300,000 homes. 
Local residents and environmentalists express concerns about the high energy consumption and its impact on the local power grid. Energy demand in the region has increased by 5%, which could lead to higher prices for consumers. 
Riot Platforms representatives state that the facility primarily uses renewable energy sources and creates hundreds of jobs. However, experts call for stricter regulation of mining operations to ensure the sustainability of the energy system.
