In the latest string of social media breaches, the official X account of <a href="https://thecoinrise.com/eigenlayer-overtakes-aave-in-tvl-rankings-ethereum-inches-closer-to-ath-nuggetrush-enters-launchpad-round-of-presale/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">EigenLayer</a>, a well-known restaking protocol, has fallen victim to a hack. This breach sent the crypto community into high alert. The compromised account began posting fraudulent messages designed to trick users into clicking malicious links under the guise of an exclusive token reallocation.&nbsp;
This incident again put the protocol on edge, as it recently <a href="https://thecoinrise.com/eigenlayer-suffers-5-5m-token-heist-after-email-breach-funds-partially-frozen/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">suffered a whopping $5.5 million worth of tokens in an email breach.</a> This situation underscores the growing number of social media hacks targeting high-profile crypto projects.

The hackers wasted no time in exploiting the reputation of the EigenLayer platform. The first fraudulent post appeared shortly after the breach. The bad actor advertised a false reallocation of EIGEN tokens for Season 2 of the platform’s stakeholder airdrop. This fake announcement was followed by a malicious link urging users to claim their supposed tokens.
It was a well-timed ploy, as the official airdrop had already concluded in September. It made the scam seem both urgent and authentic to unsuspecting users.&nbsp;
But the deception did not stop there. Ten minutes after the first post, the hackers struck again with a follow-up message, reinforcing their ruse with a second call to action. A final post followed shortly after, demanding quick action from users. Unfortunately, users are unaware they are being led directly into a scam.

Blockchain investigator ZachXBT, known for his vigilant space monitoring, immediately raised the alarm. He posted about the compromise on his Telegram channel. He warned users not to click any links on the EigenLayer X account.&nbsp;
Soon after, Mudit Gupta, Polygon Labs’s Chief Information Security Officer, <a href="https://x.com/Mudit__Gupta/status/1847220720830472238" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">echoed the warning</a> and stressed that no new airdrop was happening. Platforms like DeFiLlama also stepped in, issuing their own alerts to help prevent further damage.

Celebrities, brands, and now crypto platforms have all fallen victim. These include American actress <a href="https://thecoinrise.com/sydney-sweeney-x-account-hacked-scam-coin-promoted/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Sydney Sweeney, </a><a href="https://thecoinrise.com/american-rapper-50-cents-x-account-hacked-to-post-false-gunit-token-crypto-scam/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Rapper 50 </a>Cent, Ethereum co-founder <a href="https://thecoinrise.com/vitalik-buterins-x-account-hacked-details/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Vitalik Buterin</a>, and even the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). They have all seen their accounts hijacked by fraudsters looking to exploit their followers’ trust.
