<p>The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the commencement of the 2024 Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CBWASSCE) for private candidates. </p> 
<p>The exam will begin on Friday, October 25, 2024, and run until Friday, December 20, 2024. This is the first time WAEC is implementing a hybrid approach for the examination, combining both computer-based and paper-and-pen options.</p> 
<p>The examination board had previously announced that it would switch to a computer-based test (CBT) in 2024. They advised candidates to improve their computer skills in preparation for the exam. Before the actual exam, they organised mock exams to help candidates become familiar with the new CBT platform.</p>

<h4 id="hybrid-mode-of-the-examination" class="wp-block-heading">Hybrid Mode of the Examination</h4> 
<p>The 2024 CBWASSCE will be conducted using a hybrid format. This means that the objective or multiple-choice questions will be rendered onscreen, and candidates will be required to input their answers directly on the computer. </p> 
<p>The essay and practical questions will also be displayed onscreen; however, candidates must provide their responses in the traditional answer booklets provided by the examination centres.</p> 
<p>For those who prefer, WAEC has allowed the option to take the entire examination using the Paper and Pen mode. This flexibility is aimed at ensuring that all candidates, regardless of their level of familiarity with computer-based testing, can participate smoothly.</p>

<h4 id="registration-and-walk-in-candidate-option" class="wp-block-heading">Registration and “Walk-In Candidate” Option</h4> 
<p>WAEC has extended the registration period to Tuesday, October 29, 2024, giving intending candidates a bit more time to complete their registration. Additionally, the <strong>“Walk-in Candidate” option</strong> is available. </p>

  <p>This means that candidates who are unable to register during the normal registration period can still participate by registering 24 hours before the scheduled paper they wish to take.</p>

<h4 id="access-to-the-timetable-and-preparation-resources" class="wp-block-heading">Access to the Timetable and Preparation Resources</h4> 
<p>The final timetable for the exam is available for download on its <a href="https://registration.waecdirect.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">website</a>. To assist candidates in their preparation, the council has provided several resources, including the WAEC e-Study Platform, which offers study materials and past questions. </p> 
<p>Candidates can also purchase WAEC Past Questions and Answers books and engage with other candidates through the <a href="https://www.waeckonnect.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">WAECKonnect</a> Platform to enhance their exam readiness. The council has also made efforts to ensure that the exams are inclusive. Candidates with special needs, such as visual impairments, have been factored into the planning of the CBT mode.</p>
