During a chat at Binance Blockchain Week Dubai 2024, Binance’s former CEO, Changpeng Zhao, or CZ, shared what he’s been through lately, including his recent time in a U.S. prison.&nbsp; 
Speaking with Austin Arnold from Altcoin Daily, CZ opened up about how being in prison was a huge adjustment. He described it as a place with “very limiting” freedom, which pushed him to think deeply about what matters most in life.

He missed his family, friends, good food, and his own bed. Overall, he said the experience helped him understand what he truly values. 
About his charges, CZ kept things brief due to a plea agreement that limits what he can share with the public.&nbsp; 
The former CEO was <a href="https://www.cryptotimes.io/2024/05/01/binance-founder-cz-sentenced-to-4-months-in-prison/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">sentenced to 4 months</a> in prison on April 30th this year for not following strict anti-money laundering rules at Binance.&nbsp; 
Reflecting on it, he said he’d “done the time” and was ready to move forward, mentioning that even though he was convicted, the judge still recognized his character. 
While in prison, CZ noted that he made some connections. He said inmates were curious about his story, but he mostly kept to himself.&nbsp; 
Most people he met were there for minor offenses. While CZ is known as a wealthy crypto figure in the outside world, he joked that in prison he was “the poorest,” with only $200 for food in the cafeteria, showing how he adjusted to a very different lifestyle. 
Also, CZ shared that he has no plans to return to running Binance but will still be involved as a shareholder. He said being “forced to retire” is something he now sees as a chance to explore new interests.&nbsp; 
Looking forward, CZ plans to focus on AI and mentoring others in the crypto world. He also clarified that he’s not banned from working in crypto and wants to support new entrepreneurs.
