Jeremy Allaire, CEO and co-founder of Circle, sees Hong Kong as a key market for the company’s stablecoin, USDC. Allaire announced Circle’s plans to <a href="https://www1.hkej.com/dailynews/headline/article/3919349/USDC%25E7%2599%25BC%25E8%25A1%258C%25E5%2595%2586Circle%25E8%25AC%2580%25E6%2594%25BB%25E6%25B8%25AF" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">expand its presence</a> in Hong Kong, potentially hiring more staff and establishing local operations. However, Circle is waiting for clarity on Hong Kong’s upcoming stablecoin regulations before deciding whether to pursue a license.
Hong Kong is becoming a crypto hub despite mainland China’s restrictions on the market. To expand its crypto market, Hong Kong will <a href="https://coinedition.com/hong-kong-to-license-all-crypto-exchanges-by-year-end/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">introduce new laws</a> and regulations, and will also launch a Virtual Asset Index Series. The city plans to establish a clear regulatory framework for the stablecoin industry. Hong Kong will also release the planned stablecoin regulatory agenda by the end of this year.
