Russia to Launch Digital Asset Platform for Emerging Markets
Russia has devised a bold new plan to transform global financial markets. The country proposes that the BRICS group, one of the most powerful economic entities, establish a unitary digital asset system through which electronic payments and investments can be made in growing markets. This is part of a larger BRICS initiative to lessen the US dollar’s dominance and increase its influence in global trade and finance.

Statement of the Russian President About Launching BRICSa

“We would propose launching a new investment platform for BRICS countries using electronic assets,” Putin stated at the Valdai Discussion Club on Friday. “This would enable investment in developing markets, mainly in South Asia, Africa and Latin America.”.
They plan to launch a new cryptocurrency platform to attract more investment to developing countries. Russia proposed the idea of building a single system of digital assets for BRICS nations to ease electronic payments and attract further investments in developing countries. This BRICS group of nations today consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates, and they are still growing stronger. In fact, they recently invited 13 more countries to join.
The BRICS nations are working to lessen reliance on Western financial systems. A digital currency would be one of the ways through which they are trying to figure out new ways for making payments and investing. In such situations, they could control their economies and consequently challenge the dominance of the US dollar. Russia and the US have a tense relationship and there are many restrictions on Russia’s use of the dollar.

Can BRICS Challenge the Dollar’s Dominance?

Of course, BRICS countries are becoming less dependent on the dollar and they are moving toward a new financial system, one less dependent on the West. One of their proposals is to use several currencies in exchange rather than just the dollar. This will ease trade between BRICS. They also require a new platform to buy and sell important goods like oil, gas, grains, and gold.
There should be a new “BRICS Bill” suggested to cut its dependence on the dollar. However, it would be very hard to totally wriggle out because of the dollar’s penetrating usage in global trade and finance. At the same time, Donald Trump also stated during his campaign that he would push to keep the US dollar as the world’s reserve currency. Trump said countries that deny the dollar will face consequences. The BRICS is no exception to these struggles that may occur now that Trump won the presidential race.

Conclusion

Creating a BRICS digital asset platform would be one of the biggest steps toward curtailing dependence on financial systems dominated by the West. This, of course, is promising; still, it encounters many problems in dealing with technical problems, regulatory problems, and an established US dollar domination.
The success of this will depend on the joint efforts of the BRICS nations to overcome these obstacles and chart a new way in global finance. With the world changing, people are paying more attention to the BRICS countries trying to replace the US dollar.
