<p>On November 15, Base announced completing one billion transactions since its launch in August 2023. This goal was achieved in just over a year of platform operation, which shows its dynamic development. It took Bitcoin more than 15 years to achieve the same level of success.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>  
<p>Base is currently the fastest-growing Layer-2 solution for Ethereum, outpacing others such as Optimism and Arbitrum. In the most recent CoinGecko <a href="https://www.coingecko.com/research/publications/most-popular-blockchain-ecosystems" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">report</a>, it was listed as the 2nd most popular blockchain in 2024. It also stated that Base receives nine times as much attention as Arbitrum, its closest contender.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The network relies heavily on the sustainability of Coinbase, which serves as its primary support. For Base, <a href="https://cryptonewsland.com/coinbase-ceo-says-doge-could-boost-economic-freedom-in-the-us/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Coinbase</a> has been a key player given its standing and capabilities as the biggest cryptocurrency exchange in the United States.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>  
<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-nft-release-sparks-backlash"><strong>NFT Release Sparks Backlash</strong></h2>  
<p>To commemorate the one billion transaction milestone, Base <a href="https://x.com/base/status/1857458554896265228" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">released</a> a celebratory NFT. However, the artwork came under scrutiny after digital artist Chris Biron accused the network of copying his work. Biron claimed the network profited over $36,000 from the NFT without crediting him.&nbsp;</p>  
<p>The artist expressed frustration over the lack of attribution. “When a $76 billion corporation uses my work and earns significant profits without credit, it feels unfair,” Biron stated.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-apology-and-resolution"><strong>Apology and Resolution</strong></h2>  
<p>Base lead developer Jesse Pollak issued a public apology following the backlash. He clarified that the incident was unintentional and acknowledged the resemblance to Biron’s artwork. In a statement, Base <a href="https://x.com/base/status/1858004800966947107" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">promised</a> to transfer all NFT proceeds to Biron. The team also committed to improving its processes to avoid similar incidents in the future.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>  
<p>Biron responded positively to the apology by calling it a class act. He praised Base for addressing the situation respectfully and taking corrective action. Base's milestone reflects its prominence in the blockchain space, though the NFT controversy serves as a reminder of the challenges tied to creative ownership.</p>
