The Graph

The Graph, a decentralized indexing protocol often likened to Google for blockchain networks, has unveiled a groundbreaking data standard for Web3 applications, named GRC-20. This innovation aims to redefine how decentralized applications (DApps) structure, share, and interlink information, as outlined in a <a href="https://github.com/graphprotocol/graph-improvement-proposals/blob/main/grcs/0020-knowledge-graph.md" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">blog post</a> accompanying developer Yaniv Tal’s Graph Improvement Proposal.
Building on Tal’s earlier <a href="https://www.geobrowser.io/space/0x2B5357e08aE291848Ff467eB1a8239d2e392bef5/0e42984f-bf78-4f52-8b1e-4f04af6611b5" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">introduction</a> of “knowledge graphs,” GRC-20 seeks to create a shared language for organizing and understanding Web3 data. Knowledge graphs highlight connections and relationships within information, elevating it from raw data to actionable insights.
According to The Graph, GRC-20 surpasses the current Resource Description Framework (RDF), which has limitations in addressing the technical needs of Web3.
The framework integrates core concepts, including “Spaces” for grouping information, “Entities” and “Relations” to represent data pieces, and “Types” for adding structure. Developers will define these components, enabling customizable and interoperable applications. The Graph plans to roll out tools to facilitate the adoption of GRC-20 in the coming weeks.
