Maya Parbhoe, a presidential candidate in Suriname, has a bold plan to transform her country into a Bitcoin-powered nation, even more crypto-centric than El Salvador under President Nayib Bukele.&nbsp;Maya believes Bitcoin holds the answer to several issues currently Suriname faces, including corruption, unemployment and inflation. 
Parbhoe, who is also the CEO of Daedalus Labs, a Bitcoin and NOSTR services firm, aims to tackle Suriname’s rampant corruption and improve the lives of its citizens by adopting Bitcoin as the standard currency.

If she wins the 2025 election, Parbhoe <a href="https://www.maya2025.com/plan" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">plans</a> to make Bitcoin legal tender and replace the Suriname dollar with Bitcoin within the first year. She envisions paying salaries in Bitcoin, dismantling the central bank, cutting taxes, and privatizing public services.&nbsp; 
Her ultimate goal is to create a transparent, corruption-free government where the national budget is traceable on the blockchain. Parbhoe’s passion for Bitcoin is deeply personal. Her father, Winod Parbhoe, was murdered in a corruption-related scandal when Maya was just 13 years old.&nbsp; 
He had uncovered illegal money laundering tied to Suriname’s largest bank and the Colombian FARC guerrillas. This tragedy drove Maya to fight against corruption and find a way to build a new, transparent financial system for Suriname using Bitcoin. 
Over the years, she has gained substantial support from the Bitcoin community, especially after working with Samson Mow, a key figure behind El Salvador’s Bitcoin adoption.&nbsp; 
Her efforts in 2023 to make Bitcoin legal tender in Suriname were blocked by corruption in the government. However, after deciding to run for president, Parbhoe hopes to eliminate corruption and build a Bitcoin-based economy that’s free from manipulation. 
Her vision is resonating with many, offering a fresh and radical approach to fix Suriname’s financial system and governance. Only time will tell if her bold plan can bring real change to the country.
