 MARA Holdings, previously known as Marathon Digital, has raised concerns about the United States’ role in the global Bitcoin landscape, urging the country to adopt a more assertive approach to safeguard its economic and national security interests.

In a recent <a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://x.com/maraholdings/status/1861426492418187564" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">post</a> on X, MARA emphasized the significance of Bitcoin in light of the growing trend of global de-dollarization and the increasing competition from rival nations.

 “The U.S. must act swiftly to secure dominant positions in Bitcoin and Bitcoin mining, similar to its historical approach with gold,”
</blockquote>
the company stated.
They noted that the U.S. currently holds over 200,000 Bitcoin, slightly surpassing China’s 190,000 BTC. Meanwhile, <a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://www.gold.org/goldhub/data/gold-reserves-by-country" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">data</a> from the World Gold Council reveals that the U.S. possesses 8,133 metric tonnes of gold, significantly more than China’s 2,264 tonnes, reflecting America’s focus on gold reserves for national security in a system no longer directly backed by gold.&nbsp;
MARA further highlighted the pressing need for the U.S. to protect its share of the global Bitcoin hashrate, which is crucial for mining power and transaction control. Failure to do so could make the U.S. vulnerable to adversaries that might manipulate Bitcoin transactions.

The crypto mining firm proposed a six-pronged strategy to strengthen the U.S. position, which includes increasing domestic production of mining hardware like ASIC chips to lessen dependence on foreign suppliers.
Similarly, Maxim Oreshkin, the deputy head of Russia’s presidential administration, recently <a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://defi-planet.com/2024/11/russian-official-warns-of-energy-shortage-risk-due-to-crypto-mining-boom/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">warned</a> that the country may face an energy shortage within the next 5 to 10 years due to the rapid growth of cryptocurrency mining. In an interview with Russia’s state news agency TASS, Oreshkin emphasized the strain on energy supplies in regions such as southern Siberia, where Bitcoin mining is flourishing because of low electricity costs.
