<h4>Today, as promised we continue on the Altcoin Buzz investment philosophy. It’s helped many people, including many of you, match or beat the market.</h4> 
And we want to show you why. Today’s article is the 2nd of 2 parts where we talk all about our 5 main pillars for investment. Let’s discover more about how to build a crypto portfolio. 
<h5>Review of Pillars #1-2</h5> 
In these pillars, we talked about coin selection and what to invest. We broke down why you need to have some in: 
<ul> 
 <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Bitcoin and ETH specifically.</li> 
 <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Other large caps.</li> 
 <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Strategic midcaps and small caps.</li> 
</ul> 
So you are diversified by market size. We also looked at what to invest, which pairs well with Pillar #4 in <a href="https://youtu.be/fFlOfa_Ql1E" target="_blank" rel="noopener">this video</a>. Here we consider proper investment size. Also,&nbsp; how much you should be in long-term positions like Bitcoin vs. shorter-term positions where you are taking advantage of specific market conditions. And there’s more where that came from. A mix of both longer-term and shorter-term positions is vital for a healthy portfolio. You definitely should review part 1 after you see this video. So let’s move on to Pillar #3. 
<h5>Pillar #3: When to Invest</h5> 
Pillar 3 is When to Invest. Of course, here we are talking about when to buy and sell. For anything that is NOT a long-term holding, we recommend that when a token doubles you take some $$ off the table. Book some profits. 
A solid but some would say conservative approach is to sell half when it doubles. The math on this means when you sell half you recoup your original investment as you can see here. The more aggressive you are, and the more you think the story on the token has stayed the same or improved, then the more you can leave to continue to (hopefully) profit. 
Our general recommendation is to sell at least 10-20% to take some of your original investment back. When to buy is a little more complicated. One signal we look for is a technical analysis. When a token bounces up off of a strong support level, then that’s a good time to buy. 
Another signal we use is our Projected Market Cap tool. More on what this is in just a second. But when it presents a good value on a quality project, then we look to buy. A shorter-term signal we use is when a great project, meaning one we like and recommend and may have a position in already, drops 15-20% in a short period for no good reason. No good reason means nothing news or project-specific related like a hack. We see that as buying while it’s on sale. 
There are other signals we use that we go into more detail with within the Alpha group chats and research. 
<h5>Pillar #4: How Much to Invest?</h5> 
Then we have how much to invest and more importantly, how much to risk. They might not be the same number. For example, professional traders all over the world in stocks, currencies, commodities, and even crypto are likely to follow the <a href="https://www.cmegroup.com/education/courses/trade-and-risk-management/the-2-percent-rule.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2% rule</a>. 
This is ultra-simplified risk management. The idea is one bomb or one rug doesn’t kill your whole portfolio. Maybe that has happened to you before. No doubt you know someone it’s happened to. The stories are all over Crypto X about it. One rug kills the portfolio, or one piece of bad news on a project kills their returns.

Generally, we recommend some healthy concentration, which is the opposite of diversification, in the large caps. If you have 30-50% of your portfolio in just the top projects, then that’s good and you are probably doing fine. Unless the top projects you had are ones that dropped out of the top 10 like Polkadot or <a href="https://www.altcoinbuzz.io/?s=cardano" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Cardano</a>. 
But especially with the Bitcoin and Ethereum emphasis we’ve mentioned, if you have a position in those then that’s good. That does not apply here. But just like how Bitcoin season leads to alt season, we have some recommendations: 
<ol> 
 <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">As mentioned in Pillar #3, take some profits. Take some of those profits on your trades and rotate them into other positions like your favorite AI small-cap or RWA mid-cap. This helps keep your portfolio healthy and strong.</li> 
 <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Use DCA. You don’t have to invest all in one lump sum. Time in the market beats trying to time the market every time. So get your $$ in but with solid positions in strong projects.</li> 
 <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Consider rebalancing your portfolio if you have some wildly profitable positions and some very unprofitable ones. Add to the positions where the story is still strong and don’t be afraid to cut losses if the story changes.</li> 
</ol> 
We also like to use Projected Market Cap. This is where we look at a market cap we think is realistic for the project. Check out Bitcoin. Do you think it could go to $2.8 trillion in this bull cycle? We do. And that would be a 2x. This helps give us an idea of if we are buying high or low based on the project’s history and current pricing. This tool works great for us and with some research, it can work for you too. 
<h5>Pillar #5: Why We Invest</h5> 
Lastly, we have why we invest. Here, we mean a combination of what your philosophy is and what your goals are. Our philosophy with Alpha is simply defined as predicting upcoming narratives with precision. And we’ve been super early to some like AI and even earlier to ones like gaming, which have not fully recovered yet. 
As to goals, getting rich isn’t a goal. A goal is more specific and measurable, like $2 million in portfolio value so you can retire. That’s a goal. Or $200,000 in portfolio value so you can cash some out to buy a house or some land outright. That’s a great goal, too. Don’t let Crypto X fool you into thinking you have to make $5 million this cycle, or it’s nothing and you are a failure. Your goals are yours and yours alone. No nonsense like this.

But it’s key that you have them and that you account for these goals in how you manage your portfolio and take profits. After all, if you aren’t working towards a goal with your investment, then what’s the point of all this? Use your goals to make a plan. And stick to it.
