Leading ride-hailing platform, <a href="http://bolt.eu" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bolt</a> has become the first e-hailing platform to obtain a licence to operate in Anambra state from the state government. This was disclosed by the company’s representative in a chat with Technext.&nbsp; 
This comes following the implementation of e-hailing regulations in the state. The company says the licence allows it to deploy its ride-hailing services throughout the state, providing residents and visitors with safe, reliable, and affordable transportation options. 
In the chat with Technext, Bolt said the licence does not mean it is just establishing its presence in Anambra state as it has been operational for a while. However, there weren’t any specific regulations guiding the ride-hailing industry previously. 
This absence of regulation prompted the company to engage with the Anambra state Ministry of Transportation with a focus on developing ride-hailing regulations to enhance operational efficiency and establish clear guidelines for such services in the state.

While the engagement began under the past administration, it didn’t materialize into any concrete regulation until recently. 
“Following sustained discussions this year with the Ministry of Transportation, the Honourable Commissioner signed into effect e-hailing regulations to serve as a formal framework for the industry. Subsequently, we fulfilled the stipulated requirements to secure an operational license, enabling us to continue providing seamless services in the market,” Bolt said. 
<h4 id="bolt-is-undeterred-by-the-insecurity-in-anambra" class="wp-block-heading">Bolt is undeterred by the insecurity in Anambra</h4> 
While insecurity is a challenge all across the country, the situation in Anambra state appears to be heightening by the day. This is due to the activities of separatist elements under the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) and other non-state actors commonly referred to as Unknown Gunmen. 
These elements have spread fear around the state with their violent activities such that safety has become terribly compromised in the state.&nbsp;However, Bolt remained resolute that its security tools and systems would be adequate in the face of the security risks in the state. 
“We recognise the security challenges in the Southeast region, particularly. However, irrespective of the region or city, the safety of our riders and drivers is our utmost priority, and we are committed to implementing comprehensive security measures to address the specific concerns wherever we operate in,” the company told Technext. 
While Anambra is certainly a business hub, economic activities in the state are witnessing limitations, particularly due to the Monday sit-at-homes which cripple economic activities in the state. Indeed, the Southeast reportedly lost 4 trillion naira in two years to sit-at-home. Although it’s not clear how much Anambra lost, the governor of neighbouring Enugu says the state loses 10 billion naira every Monday.&nbsp; 
Despite all of these, Bolt believes the prospects to be lucrative are impressive.&nbsp; 
“Anambra presents a compelling market for ride-hailing services due to several factors such as Economic Vibrancy, Growing Urbanization, Increased Connectivity, Safety and Affordability amongst others,” the company said.

Bolt says the granting of this license marks a significant milestone for its Nigerian operations as it demonstrates the company’s commitment to expanding its services and contributing to the economic development of the country. The company said its presence in Anambra State will provide numerous benefits, including increased access to affordable transportation, job creation, enhanced safety and security and economic growth. 
Speaking during the licensing ceremony, Anambra State Commissioner for Transport, Barr. Patricia Ifeoma Igwebuike described it as a momentous occasion that the state government has eagerly anticipated. 
“The arrival of Bolt represents a welcome development in our state’s transportation landscape. Today, on behalf of the Ministry of Transport, we are proud to officially grant you this operational license. We are confident that Bolt will provide safe, reliable, and affordable transportation options for the people of Anambra. We wish you tremendous success and look forward to a fruitful collaboration that benefits our community and strengthens our transportation sector,” she said.
