The United Kingdom Court of Appeal has dismissed Craig Wright’s attempt to challenge a High Court ruling that declared he is not the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto.&nbsp;
Hodlonaut, a prominent Bitcoin influencer, <a href="https://x.com/hodlonaut/status/1862471604615225638" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">reported</a> on November 29 that Wright’s appeal for permission was “brutally denied.” The court found that Wright had presented false claims about being Nakamoto, with suspicions that some of his arguments were generated using artificial intelligence.
This ruling effectively ends Wright’s long-running efforts to legally claim the Bitcoin creation title, closing a controversial chapter in the cryptocurrency community’s history.
In its latest ruling, the UK Court of Appeal criticized Craig Wright for presenting “multiple falsehoods” in his appeal, with some of his references deemed “fictitious” and even “AI-generated hallucinations.”
One such example cited was the case Anderson v the Queen [2013] UKPC 2, which the court described as not credible and likely fabricated. The court further emphasized that Wright’s appeal had “no prospect of success” and that there was no valid reason to entertain it.
Craig Wright, born in 1970, is an Australian computer scientist and businessman who has claimed since at least 2016 to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin. Despite his assertions, the crypto community has raised doubts about Wright’s claims, with figures like Hodlonaut labeling him a “scammer” and a “fraud.”
Wright, often referred to as “Faketoshi” on Bitcoin forums, has continued to pursue legal action against his critics, including defamation suits against Hodlonaut, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, Adam Back, podcaster Peter McCormack, and others. Many of these lawsuits ended in defeat or were dismissed, further fueling the controversy around his identity.
In May, Judge James Mellor of the UK High Court ruled that Wright was not Satoshi Nakamoto. The case was brought by the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA), a group of companies that accused Wright of forging evidence to support his claim.
The ruling reinforced the conclusion that Wright is not the creator of Bitcoin, leading to greater efforts by investigators and journalists to uncover Nakamoto’s true identity.
In October, <a href="https://www.cryptotimes.io/2024/10/04/hbo-documentary-to-reveal-identity-of-satoshi-nakamoto/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">an HBO documentary</a> speculated that Canadian Bitcoin core developer <a href="https://www.cryptotimes.io/2024/10/09/leaked-hbo-clip-points-bitcoin-dev-peter-todd-as-satoshi/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Peter Todd could be Nakamoto</a>. However, Todd publicly denied the claim, and many in the crypto community remained skeptical about the suggestion.
