Changpeng Zha CZ, the former CEO of Binance, has been a well-known figure in the cryptocurrency world. He built one of the largest crypto exchanges, but his journey changed in 2023 when he stepped down as CEO after admitting to charges of money laundering and breaking U.S. sanctions.

Zhao’s openness to accepting a pardon follows suggestions from key figures in the crypto community, like John Lilic, the Executive Director of Telos Foundation. Lilic believes that a pardon could help Zhao return to Binance and drive the growth of the crypto sector. He also stated that Zhao was unfairly targeted by regulators, calling him a “victim of lawfare.”

As part of his plea agreement with the U.S. government, Binance was fined $4.3 billion, and Zhao himself had to pay a $50 million fine. However, this has kept his enthusiasm for the industry he helped build.
He has since shifted his focus to blockchain technology, artificial intelligence investments, and his educational initiative, Giggle Academy, aimed at fostering the next generation of crypto entrepreneurs.
