GM acquired Cruise, a self-driving car startup, in 2016 with plans to revolutionize urban transportation.</p> 
<p>However, the company recently announced that it would cease funding for Cruise’s driverless taxi service, redirecting its focus toward integrating Cruise’s technology into its autonomous vehicle development. <br><br>This decision was communicated to Cruise employees through Slack and an all-hands meeting. Initially, Cruise had aimed to launch a driverless service in Houston by 2025, but GM’s strategic pivot marks a shift in priorities toward personal vehicle autonomy.</p>
