 A<a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://www.kraken.com/learn/crypto-myths-survey" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"> recent survey</a> by Kraken involving 2,537 Americans revealed that 55% of respondents, regardless of their crypto ownership status, recognize the practical applications of cryptocurrency.

However, 29% remain uncertain about its long-term viability, highlighting lingering scepticism in the market.
Among current crypto holders, optimism prevails, with 73% expressing their intent to continue investing in digital assets as 2025 approaches. Furthermore, 43% of respondents consider crypto 
<blockquote>
 “more secure than the traditional financial system,” 
</blockquote>
while 52% view it as a promising long-term investment.
The survey also explored how “crypto myths” influence public perception and investment decisions. One prevailing misconception is the association of cryptocurrency with illegal activities. According to Kraken’s findings, 60% of respondents still believe crypto primarily facilitates criminal use despite mounting evidence to the contrary.
Generational differences were prominent in the survey results. Gen X (ages 45–60) demonstrated the highest confidence in cryptocurrency, with 63% viewing it as a practical investment. Having experienced economic upheavals like the 2008 Great Recession and the 2020 COVID crisis, this group is often sceptical of traditional financial systems. Their unique perspective—shaped by witnessing the Cypherpunk movement and the evolution of crypto—blends familiarity with traditional finance and a growing trust in digital assets.
Conversely, Gen Z (ages 18–29) displayed the least confidence, with only 32% recognizing crypto’s real-world utility. This could stem from their limited exposure to crypto’s development and their ongoing attempts to navigate its complexities.
These findings align with a s<a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://defi-planet.com/2024/11/crypto-adoption-gains-momentum-among-wealthy-investors-despite-short-term-uncertainty-new-report/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">eparate report by Swiss digital bank Sygnum</a>, which surveyed over 400 investors across 27 countries. Sygnum’s data highlighted growing confidence among high-net-worth individuals in crypto’s potential, driven by its perceived role as a “megatrend” and a hedge against macroeconomic risks. Institutional investors showed particular interest in Layer 1 protocols and Web3 infrastructure, focusing on Bitcoin and Ethereum as key investment opportunities.
