The announcement by Bank Al-Maghrib, Morocco’s central bank, to draft crypto regulations marks a pivotal moment. Central bank governor Abdellatif Jouahri has confirmed that the draft is under review, signaling a commitment to bringing crypto into the formal economy.&nbsp; 
This change aligns Morocco with a global trend of evolving digital asset regulations. Countries that were once critical of crypto, including China and Bolivia are now <a href="https://thecoinrise.com/china-adds-virtual-assets-in-updated-anti-money-laundering-laws/">developing frameworks to harness its potential</a>. Interestingly, over 130 nations are exploring Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs).&nbsp; 
Morocco’s shift to crypto aims to boost financial inclusion. This is because 42% of the population are still unbanked. Crypto and a future CBDC can bridge this gap. Also smartphones, crypto wallets can enable savings, investments, and cross-border payments.

Many citizens remain unfamiliar with cryptocurrencies. This makes public education essential to promote understanding and responsible use. 
To support adoption, Morocco needs reliable technological infrastructure. This includes securing platforms for transactions and better internet access in rural areas. The authorities need to integrate crypto with traditional banking systems to ensure stability and consumer protection.&nbsp; 
Additionally, stringent cybersecurity measures need to be in place to protect users against fraud and hacking. Also, international collaboration will help Morocco align its policies with global standards and maintain financial integrity.
