MicroStrategy founder and Bitcoin bull Michael Saylor predicted that crypto mining giant MARA holdings will be the next BTC firm to join the Nasdaq 100.
“I expect $MARA will be the next,” Saylor said in a Dec. 14 X <a href="https://x.com/saylor/status/1867962670906851461" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">post</a> in response to a tweet by MARA Holdings chairman and CEO Fred Thiel, who congratulated Saylor and MicroStrategy for their inclusion in the Nasdaq-100 Index. MicroStrategy is expected to join the index before the trading day starts on Dec. 23.

Thiel replied to Saylor’s post by saying MARA is “working hard” to get included in the Nasdaq-100 Index. This comes after the <a href="https://insidebitcoins.com/news/early-bitcoin-investor-arrested-for-failing-to-report-capital-gains-from-3-7-million-btc-sales-between-2017-and-2019" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Bitcoin</a> mining giant spent more than $600 million on the leading crypto in the last 2 months, a Dec. 2 filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) shows.

The MARA stock price recorded a more than 13% gain in the last 6 months to close off last week at $22.73, according to Google Finance <a href="https://www.google.com/finance/quote/MARA:NASDAQ?hl=en" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">data</a>. During the same period, MicroStrategy’s MSTR soared more than 173% to close last week off at $408.67. This coincides with the 149% year-to-date gain <a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoin/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">posted</a> by Bitcoin.

In addition to spending over $600 million on <a href="https://insidebitcoins.com/news/bitwise-predicts-bitcoin-will-top-200k-in-2025-ethereum-and-solana-to-set-new-all-time-highs" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">BTC</a> in the last 2 months, MARA Holdings has also urged the US to act more aggressively in order to “secure dominant positions” in the Bitcoin mining industry, calling it a matter of national security.

The firm added that the US needs to be a frontrunner when it comes to accumulating Bitcoin, similar to what it did with gold. This comes amid a growing de-dollarization trend globally as countries push to reduce their reliance on the US dollar.
