While Ethereum (ETH) is likely to lag behind Bitcoin in 2024, this could change in 2025.
Cryptocurrency platform Matrixport stated that Bitcoin continues to dominate the markets, but Ethereum could become the leader in 2025.
Matrixport analysts said Bitcoin has outperformed the market this year with its dominance rising to 61% but falling to 54%.
In contrast, Ethereum saw its dominance drop from 18% to 12% following the launch of spot ETH ETFs.
While Ethereum faces negativity in 2024, Matrixport analysts stated that the altcoin focus is shifting towards Solana, but Ethereum could make a big attack in 2025 with increasing ETH ETF inflows.
Analysts also said that traditional finance (TradFi) institutions could aggressively accumulate ETH, which would support the Ethereum rally.
“Ethereum appears to have largely missed the 2024 Bitcoin bull market.
Bitcoin’s dominance skyrocketed from 50% to 61% and then fell to 54%, while Ethereum’s dominance fell sharply from 18% to just 12%.
This decline has been particularly pronounced since the launch of Ethereum ETFs, with its dominance falling in an almost linear trend.
While the attention in the altcoin space has shifted to Solana, 2025 could be a turning point for Ethereum as traditional finance (TradFi) institutions may begin to aggressively accumulate, spurred by strong inflows into Ethereum ETFs.
Bitcoin leads the rally, while Ethereum could be the underdog positioned for a significant recovery.”
