Ethena Introduces USDtb Stablecoin Backed by BlackRock&#39;s BUIDL TokenDecentralized finance (DeFi) powerhouse Ethena has unveiled its latest innovation: <a href="https://x.com/ethena_labs/status/1839258925981642834" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">USDtb</a>, a stablecoin designed to stabilize its flagship USDe token during volatile market conditions. With backing from BlackRock’s tokenized money market fund BUIDL and tokenization leader Securitize, this new stablecoin is set to reshape how DeFi protocols manage risk and ensure consistent value for users.<h3 id="a-game-changing-stablecoin-in-the-defi-space">A Game-Changing Stablecoin in the DeFi Space</h3>Ethena, which has rapidly emerged as a leader in the DeFi sector with $6 billion in user funds since its early 2024 launch, aims to address a key challenge in the crypto space: navigating bearish market conditions.<img src="https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/cryptopatelnew.appspot.com/o/cde1fe59-1547-4d80-b2e6-4312820aad12?alt&#61;media" />The protocol’s original token, USDe, generates impressive yields—currently at 27% annualized—by employing an innovative strategy of shorting perpetual swaps for top cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Solana (SOL). While lucrative in bull markets, this strategy can falter during bearish phases, leaving investors exposed to negative funding rates.USDtb offers a novel solution. By shifting USDe’s backing assets into USDtb during periods of market downturns, Ethena can mitigate risks and maintain stability for its users. The protocol plans to position USDtb as collateral for margin trading on centralized exchanges, which would further integrate the stablecoin into the broader financial ecosystem. To facilitate this, Ethena has partnered with reputable custodians such as Copper, Zodia Custody, Komainu, and Coinbase Institutional.Additionally, the protocol has applied for Sky’s $1 billion Tokenization Gran Prix program, which focuses on funding tokenized real-world asset (RWA) projects.
