 Prominent bitcoin critic Peter Schiff has written a message asking people to wish him a happy birthday with a bitcoin contribution to his ”strategic reserve.”
 In lieu of gifts, Schiff asked for bitcoins, which he said he was finally able to transfer from an exchange to a hardware wallet.

 The financial commentator, who predicted the 2008 economic crisis and co-founded Euro Pacific Asset Management, created his March 2025 ”reserve” as a mockery of the U.S. government's plans for a strategic crypto reserve.
 As of this writing, Schiff's wallet address holds $4,650 in bitcoins received mostly from small donors.
 Despite his longtime criticism of the first cryptocurrency, he declared that he's willing to hold on to the assets until the end:

 Schiff is one of the harshest critics of U.S. President Donald Trump's administration's plans for a strategic bitcoin reserve, or any crypto reserve in general. Instead, he favors strengthening reserves in gold (which he strongly supports) or oil.
 ”Whichever country is the leader in crypto is the loser. The more money a country diverts to crypto the less capital it has to fund the production of real goods and legitimate wealth creation. The worst thing any government can do is encourage or subsidize this waste of resources,” he wrote on March 7.
 Back in late 2024, Schiff emphasized the need to create a national cryptocurrency called USAcoin instead of a strategic bitcoin reserve.
 He also criticized the ties between the crypto industry and the current U.S. government, particularly Trump family projects, and called the recent White House summit on cryptocurrencies a ”shame” and ”national disgrace.

 Schiff previously&nbsp;accused Trump of manipulating digital assets on the market that the US president was about to include in a cryptocurrency reserve, and called on the US Congress to initiate an investigation against him.

 Between March 17 and March 23, 2025, Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy)&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/saylor/status/1904142379646415203" target="_self">purchased</a>&nbsp;6,911 BTC for $584.1 million at a price of $84,529. The firm made the transaction using proceeds from the sale of shares.
 As of March 23, 2025, the company, along with its subsidiaries, owned approximately 506,137 BTC. The firm spent about $33.7 billion to purchase these assets, with an average purchase price of $66,608, including commissions and expenses.
 Strategy founder Michael Saylor announced that the firm has achieved a 7.7% return since the beginning of 2025 on its first cryptocurrency investment. At the time of writing, bitcoin is trading near the $87,200 mark:
 As a reminder, Strategy&nbsp;acquired 130 BTC for $10.7 million between March 10 and March 16, 2025 at a price of $82,981. We also previously reported that Strategy plans to&nbsp;raise up to $21 billion by issuing Class A preferred stock (STRK).
