Launched in 2023, Noble is a purpose-built Layer 1 blockchain developed using the Cosmos SDK and Tendermint. It is designed to serve as a foundational platform for native asset issuance of stablecoins and real-world assets (RWAs), within the modular blockchain ecosystem. The network combines a dedicated Cosmos-based L1 with an EVM-compatible application layer (AppLayer) to support a wide range of financial use cases, including swaps, lending, and other core DeFi infrastructure.
Noble’s architecture separates the functions of asset issuance and application development. The Layer 1 is focused on native token issuance, minting, redemption, and multi-chain transfers using the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol and HyperLane. The AppLayer enables developers to deploy smart contracts and build EVM-based applications that leverage assets issued on the Noble Layer 1.
What Makes Noble Unique?
Noble addresses a key challenge in the Cosmos and broader modular blockchain landscape: the lack of a secure, neutral, and purpose-built platform for onboarding real-world assets. By removing smart contract complexity from its issuance layer, Noble provides an environment where assets such as fiat-backed stablecoins can be securely issued and managed directly at the protocol level.
Noble includes an EVM-compatible rollup (AppLayer) that settles to the Noble L1 and leverages Celestia for data availability. This design enables developers to build and deploy familiar DeFi primitives such as swap pools, lending protocols, FOREX, and paymaster-enabled account abstraction.
Assets issued on Noble L1, such as USDN (Noble Dollar), are instantly available across supported IBC chains and can be used as gas tokens or collateral within the AppLayer.
Governance and Security Noble’s Layer 1 is secured by a validator set using the Tendermint consensus protocol. Upgrades and parameter changes to the protocol are driven by Noble's PoA (Proof of Authority) in a transparent manner.
The AppLayer is secured independently through its rollup infrastructure, inheriting settlement finality from Noble L1 and publishing data availability proofs to Celestia. Assets flow between the layers using canonical bridges managed by the Noble protocol.
Asset Issuance and Adoption USDN, Noble’s flagship asset, is a yield-accruing stablecoin backed by short-dated U.S. Treasuries. It was launched natively on Noble L1 and is designed to function as a reliable medium of exchange and settlement asset across Cosmos and EVM chains. Additional asset issuers are expected to join Noble’s issuance platform over time, expanding its reach to include tokenized treasuries, fiat-backed stablecoins in multiple currencies, and institutional RWAs.
What is Noble dollar?
Noble Dollar (USDN) is a composable yield stablecoin that gives developers and end users control over underlying yield. USDN is backed by short term U.S. Treasury Bills and yield earned from this collateral is directed to USDN holders in the form of more USDN. APY ranges from 4-5% based on current interest rates.
