zkLend is an L2 money-market protocol built on StarkNet, combining zk-rollup scalability, superior transaction speed, and cost-savings with Ethereum’s security.
Who are the founders of zkLend?
zkLend was co-founded by Jane Ma and Brian Fu in Febraury 2022.
Jane started her career in Sales and Trading at Credit Suisse before making her way to Deliveroo as Chief of Staff Hong Kong, where she fell in love with the high octane startup environment and work culture. She has extensive experience helping scale business operations at various start-ups.
Brian, on the other hand, has more than 15 years of experience in TradFi, investment banking and private equity at major financial institutions including Bloomberg, Standard Chartered Bank, Silk Road Finance and China Merchants Capital, diving into the world of on-chain protocols and crypto was an eye opening experience. Having experienced the bottlenecks and painpoints of TradFi infrastructure firsthand, he looks forward to building with people and technology that can realise this new financial paradigm.
The Protocol
The protocol offers a dual solution, Artemis and Apollo. Artemis is a permissionless service for DeFi users without sacrificing decentralisation. Apollo is a p ermissioned and compliance-focused solution for institutional clients
What users can do
Lend: Users will be able to deposit their assets into a reserve pool, thereby providing liquidity to each money market. In return, users will get interest-bearing zTokens which represent their deposited share of the pool in addition to a claim on interest earned from the pool. The total assets in the pool grows over time from interest earned from borrowing, where the interest earned will depend on the interest rate model of each asset. Users can deposit any amount into the pool with no lock up period.
Borrow: Users will be able to borrow assets deposited into various money markets using their zTokens as collateral. The borrowers’ financing rate for each asset will depend on the interest rate model, which is a function of market demand and liquidity pool utilisation. Maximum borrowing amount is determined by users’ borrowing capacity. If the users’ total loan exceeds their borrowing capacity, their position may be liquidated to ensure the longevity of the protocol.
Protocol Native Token
ZEND is the native utility token of the protocol. Upon staking of ZEND, users will receive an equivalent amount of stZEND (short for staked-ZEND). stZEND will have the following utilities; revenue share, boosted borrowing capacity, preferential rates, and governance.
