'The CryptoPunks are the alpha and omega of the CryptoArt movement,' the prestigious auction house says.
After selling one of Beeple’s NFTs for a whopping $69.3 million, Christie’s has announced that it is holding another auction for coveted digital art.
Next month, the prestigious auction house is going to hold a “21st-century evening sale” in New York featuring nine rare CryptoPunks. All nine have mint numbers under 1,000 — and all in all, 5,184 pixels from the “revolutionary NFT project” are up for grabs.
Christie’s says CryptoPunks marks “the beginning of today’s crypto art movement,” and the single lot of nine Punks has been provided by Larva Labs, the project’s creators. Noah Davis, the auctioneer’s specialist in post-war and contemporary art, said:
“The CryptoPunks are the alpha and omega of the CryptoArt movement. This is a historic sale.”
How Much Will They Raise?
There are 10,000 CryptoPunks in existence — 6,039 males and 3,840 females. Eight Punks have no distinctive features at all… and there’s just one Punk that boasts all seven of the attributes that make up these NFTs: a bucktoothed, big bearded, cigarette-smoking character with a mole, sunglasses and a top hat.
Christie’s has estimated that the lot will fetch between $7 million and $9 million when it goes under the hammer.
