Chainlink Will Use The CCIP Protocol On Layer-2 Base Network
Oracle platform Chainlink has extended its Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) to
Coinbase’s Ethereum layer-2 Base.
CCIP facilitates cross-chain messaging, token transfers and actions between blockchains and traditional payment systems like SWIFT. As the primary oracle provider on Base, Chainlink will enable projects building cross-chain decentralized applications (DApps) using CCIP.
Chainlink’s Chief Business Officer, Johann Eid,
commented that this will let “developers have access to the leading interoperability protocol to easily build cross-chain applications and services.”
Base creator Jesse Pollak added:
“We're excited about the launch of CCIP on Base to let developers securely build cross-chain applications, empowering them to experiment further and unlock new use cases."
Since launching CCIP in July, Chainlink has connected Ethereum, Avalanche, Polygon, Arbitrum and Optimism, with Base as the sixth chain integrated. Chainlink has also
successfully tested SWIFT bank payments between Citi, BNY Mellon and other banks to blockchains.
