Coinbase's Base L2 Network Has Experienced An Outage
Base, Coinbase's Ethereum Layer-2 network, faced a temporary outage lasting for half an hour on Tuesday, with a full resolution taking an additional 30 minutes. The incident was described as a "Base chain stall" on the project's status page.
Base reported on Twitter, attributing the delay in block production to the need for an internal infrastructure refresh. They quickly identified the issue and developed a fix within 14 minutes, initiating a recovery of block production and node-to-node exchanges of state information.
Despite widespread recovery, a lingering problem with remote procedure calls (RPCs) led to an all-clear report being issued, approximately 90 minutes after the incident's commencement. Base reassured users that no funds were at risk during the outage.
Base, Coinbase's recently launched Layer-2 network, has seen rapid growth since its inception. It has seen a surge in transactions and protocol fees as a result of popular social media app Friend.tech, while total value locked (TVL) recently surged due to the launch of Aerodrome.
This is Base's first serious technical difficulty, and it has sparked debate about the stability and performance of other blockchains, drawing comparisons to other networks like Solana, which have experienced outages in the past.
