The official YouTube channel of the Supreme Court of India has been hijacked by crypto scammers promoting Ripple (XRP) investments.
The channel, which boasts over 217,000 subscribers, was transformed into a platform for a fraudulent livestream featuring Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, encouraging viewers to invest in a scheme promising unrealistic returns.
On
September 20, the hackers rebranded the channel, altered its URL, and deleted all prior content. The livestream contained phishing links that prompted users to connect their crypto wallets.
By approving these requests, victims unwittingly granted hackers access to their wallets, enabling the withdrawal of funds without further authentication.
YouTube responded by removing the compromised channel, stating, “This channel was removed because it violated our Community Guidelines.” This incident is part of a larger trend of crypto scams targeting YouTube accounts, with previous cases involving well-known channels.
In April, a similar scam affected the gaming channel DidYouKnowGaming, where hackers rebranded the account and livestreamed fraudulent XRP content. YouTube was able to
restore DidYouKnowGaming’s account and its original content after the breach.
In another incident in July, the YouTube account of the popular band Ben&Ben was hacked to promote a fraudulent XRP advertisement.
The band announced via Facebook that their channel had been compromised and that they were working on recovery efforts, which eventually led to partial restoration of their account.
