Of all the software wallets you can use for cryptocurrencies, MetaMask is one of the most popular solutions. Practically any DeFi application and almost all blockchains except for Bitcoin integrate with it. In this guide, CMC Academy shows you how to add Optimism to MetaMask.

TLDR: the 4 Steps to Add Optimism to MetaMask

1. Install MetaMask software wallet

2. Tap on Setting.

3. Tap on add Network.

4. Paste the necessary information and add Optimism (OP).

Step 1: Install MetaMask

You can easily install MetaMask by downloading the wallet from the official website. When you have downloaded the extension, you need to add it to your browser. Access your browser settings by clicking on “Settings” and “More Tools.” You will see this screen after you click:

By toggling the blue button, you can pin the extension to your browser:

Step 2: Open MetaMask in Your Browser

The wallet can be accessed from the top right-hand corner of your browser after installation. Click on the MetaMask fox icon if you have pinned the wallet or click on the extension button on the top-right corner of the screen and choose MetaMask. This opens your MetaMask:

Expand the wallet to a new browser page by clicking on “Expand view:”

That opens MetaMask in a new tab:

Step 3: Add Optimism to Your MetaMask Wallet

Add Optimism by selecting the profile icon on the top right and clicking on settings:

Open the “Networks” option from the following screen:

It will bring up a screen similar to the following:

Click on “Add a network” to add Optimism. Do it by copying and pasting the technical information about Optimism from the information below:

Click on “Save” to add the network and you will see Optimism added to your MetaMask:

Step 4: Transfer OP to Your MetaMask Wallet (Optional)

You can transfer Optimism (OP) to your MetaMask once the network is added to your wallet. Any exchange that supports OP, such as Binance, works for withdrawing OP to your MetaMask.

Select “Withdraw” and open the following screen:

Copy your MetaMask address from the clipboard in your account:

Paste it into the address folder. The exchange will automatically select the correct network. If for any reason that does not happen, you have to choose Optimism as the network to avoid losing your assets!

Select the amount you want to withdraw and click “Withdraw:”

After the exchange processes the withdrawal request, you receive OP directly into your MetaMask wallet. Happy trading!
