After
extending into a second day, the jury of 12 individuals in the ongoing trial of former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried has been selected to determine his fate. The jury selection process took place on October 4, narrowing down from an initial list of 45 prospective jurors during the second day of the trial in Manhattan.
Each potential juror was given one minute to introduce themselves, including their background, age, occupation, education, relationship history and children. The final jury panel is made up of nine women and three men ranging in age from early 30s to late 60s. The jurors come from an array of professional sectors, including health care, finance, law, information technology, and education. Five of the jurors are university graduates.
Following the jury selection, District Court Judge Lewis A. Kaplan discussed the process with prosecutors and defense lawyers before announcing the final 12 members. The trial proceedings began with opening statements from both the prosecution and the defense, followed by testimonies from individuals who suffered financial losses due to FTX's collapse.
SBF faces seven counts of charges for his role in FTX's unexpected collapse in November last year.
