SIM Swap Attacks Target Friend.tech Users, Drained $385K in Ether After Earlier Attacks Worth $178K
A wave of SIM swap attacks hit the leading decentralized social network Friend.tech this week, resulting in four users having over $385,000 worth of Ethereum (ETH) stolen from their accounts. Crypto sleuth ZachXBT was able to trace the on-chain transactions to the same culprit behind all of the hacks.

SIM swapping includes hackers tricking mobile carriers into moving a user's phone number to a SIM controlled by the hacker. With the phone number, they can break into the victim's account or use two-factor authentication services to gain access.

Two of the victims openly documented their SIM swaps on Friend.tech. "Got sim swapped," tweeted Sumfattytuna. Meanwhile, KingMgugga posted that he was “getting f*** sim swapped watching it happen!!!”
Earlier in the week, four other Friend.tech users reported over 109 ETH (worth $178K) stolen due to SIM swaps.

Meanwhile, Friend.tech added a feature allowing users to remove or add login methods, allowing users to unlink their phone numbers to their account. The application is also planning to add two-factor authentication.
