Fantom is an L1 blockchain that aims to offer higher transaction throughput at lower costs. It follows a different consensus algorithm as compared to other permissionless L1 blockchains, which is known as Lachesis. It is said to aid in fast transaction executions without compromising on security. The native token of the network is FTM. It currently has a TVL of $470M.
In this article, we will walk you through the steps of adding the Fantom network to your MetaMask wallet.

Install, Set-up and Access MetaMask

To get started with the process, you’ll first need to set up your MetaMask. Once done, head over to the “Extensions” tab at the top right corner (in case you don’t see it, simply toggle the “puzzle” button at the top-right corner and select MetaMask. Add it to your extension bar by simply clicking the “pin” button).

Once it’s open, log in to your wallet and select the “Expanded View” version. It will open in a new tab.

You will be redirected to a new screen like this.

Select the colorful disc that has your account name. Note that you can tweak the account name to customize it for yourself.

Select the “Networks” tab on the left side of the screen. A new page will load (as shown in the screenshot below) where you will be able to see the networks. You can now select “Add a network” to add the Fantom chain.

Add FTM Mainnet to MetaMask

To add Fantom to your MetaMask, you will need the network details. Although this information is offered by multiple sources online, you shouldn’t trust all of them as you may end up becoming a victim of phishing attacks. It’s always advised to check for these network details on the official documentation of that chain. You may find it here. I’m listing that information here as well for convenience.
Network Name: Fantom Opera
3.ChainID: 250
4.Symbol: FTM
5.Block Explorer URL: https://ftmscan.com/

Now, simply add this info in relevant boxes.

Once you have added the network, click “Save”. You will be redirected to a new screen on this expanded version of the MetaMask wallet where you’ll find all your assets listed. You can now use your wallet address to start transferring assets.

Add Fantom Testnet to MetaMask

If you have never explored the network before and are very new to it, it’s best to get a feel of it by using its testnet version. This way, you are able to test out the network, its DApps and various other functionalities without having to put your real money at stake.
You can add the Fantom testnet to your MetMask wallet by adding these network details. Remember that the process of adding the testnet will be the same as that of adding the mainnet.
Network Name: Fantom testnet
ChainID: 0xfa2
Symbol: FTM
