One of the world’s best-known news agencies is launching a collection of NFTs today — marking some of the biggest stories over the past 100 years.

The Associated Press says the tokens reflect “significant milestones in space, global conflicts, science and discovery, and human freedoms and advancement.”

AP provides updates to newsrooms around the world in the form of wires — and oftentimes, breaking stories are simply presented in a single line.

Several rare newsflashes have been digitized, including those that offered first confirmation of the moon landing, and the end of World War II in Europe.

Stunning photography is also celebrated in the collection of NFTs, including a dramatic picture of the super blue blood moon that occurred in 2018 — a lunar event that hadn’t happened for 152 years.

How It Works

In a news release earlier this month, the AP announced that it plans to release mystery boxes on Binance’s NFT marketplace.

Four degrees of rarity are on offer — including normal, rare, super rare, and super super rate. Each mystery box costs $29.

Some of the most exclusive NFTs relate to Che Guevara and the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Other super rare collectibles relate to Joe Biden signing the Juneteenth Act, and Nelson Mandela’s inauguration.

Less common collectibles mark the beginning of World War II, and the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope.

Even those who find normal NFTs will still be able to have a piece of history, including the Berlin Wall’s fall in 1989, the U.S. killing Osama bin Laden, the discovery of Pluto, and the storming of the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6.
