The virtual worlds of the metaverse offer a whole new “meta” experience in every part of life — even…dating?

In fact, the metaverse has changed, and continues to change, the usual real-life ways of meeting new people — and that means dating, too. There has even recently been a traditional wedding held entirely in the metaverse.

This obviously has piqued people’s interest — what other parts of dating can we recreate in the metaverse?

Dating in the Metaverse

The owners of top dating apps such as Tinder and Bumble have decided to become a part of the metaverse virtual space to increase their businesses.

According to Tinder’s chief executive Renate Nyborg, Tinder’s newly launched feature “Explore” allows users to participate in new adventures while enjoying their time online. Moreover, the company is testing an in-app currency that can be used by daters for the payment of premium services available on the app. Their main aim is to build a Tinderverse to diminish the line between offline and online dating.

Similarly, Bumble’s CEO, Whitney Wolfe Herd, claimed that their trial of launching Bumble BFF (an initiative that allows people to develop platonic friendships) resulted in a 150% increase in users. For this reason, the company believes that it can be a big hit within the metaverse if it manages to successfully enter Web 3.0.

The Match Group, an active corporation of the most popular online dating services such as Tinder, is focused on creating a platform within the metaverse by the name of Single Town. Here, avatars of all the single people will be seen engaging in audio-linked conversations with each other. Similar to a public chat room, as users find someone with mutual vibes and understanding, they will link with each other in private.

The pandemic has already increased online dating since it was difficult for people to meet in person, so they were left with no other option — these options above, although some are still in development, offer interesting alternatives to real life dates!

Advantages of Dating in the Metaverse

The metaverse has allowed people to be more connected and offered a whole new level of entertainment that is hard to find in real life.

Metaverse dating has the following advantages:

● Romance Without Borders

The metaverse has made it possible for people to link, meet and date almost anyone from anywhere around the world. It is challenging to travel worldwide searching for your one true love, but metaverse dating has finally made it possible.

Not only can you find your partner from any country at all, but it is beneficial to learn so much about different places and cultures and the people.

● Goodbye to Boring Dates

You will have numerous places to go on a date with your partner if you met on the metaverse. Be it a real-life place created in the virtual space or someplace fantasy-like, out of the books. Your typical dates will not be typical anymore. How about you take your partner for a picnic in the land of unicorns? Sounds crazy, doesn’t it? Well, you can do that in a metaverse of your choice.

● Improved Safety

Metaverse dating is probably the only safest date one can ever go to. Since you’re not physically there with the person you just met, the chances of harm and threat of any sort are nil. You have the power of leaving a date right when you feel like it with just a click of a button. You can even report the other person’s inappropriate behaviour.

Marriage in the Metaverse

The virtual world of the metaverse has completely changed some views on marriage and the traditional wedding ceremonies.

One can have almost anything in their wedding on the metaverse, which is impossible to get in the real world.

During the pandemic, the world was on an extended break, many events got postponed, and many got cancelled due to the strict social distancing guidelines. But a few months later, into the pandemic, people began to resume their lives on a different platform — with video calls on Zoom and Google Meet and audio calls wherever and whenever possible to fulfill their wishes.

Recently, a couple held their wedding ceremony in the metaverse. It was the first metaverse wedding, where software engineers and computer engineers built everything. The couple got married in a real-life wedding, but since they met in the virtual world of the metaverse, they alo decided to marry on the same platform.

Traci and Dave Gagnon, aged 52 and 60 respectively, originally had their in-person weddings in New Hampshire, USA. However, they then contacted Virbela, a company that specializes in developing virtual environments for events. Virbela’s developers went a step further and made Traci’s avatar walk down the aisle, while Dave Gagnon’s avatar was seen nodding in approval to his mate’s avatar’s toast.  Eventually, when Dave got the green light for kissing Traci, they marked history by becoming the first couple to get married in the metaverse.

However, we must note that a wedding in a video game or on a metaverse platform is not a legal wedding — this is why a metaverse wedding has to be paired with a wedding held in real life (at the same time the avatars are getting married) to ensure that the marriage has real-life value.

Innovative Celebrations

There have been celebrations on Zoom from birthdays to graduation, holidays and New Year, etc. Zoom weddings became a thing too during this period. Instead of waiting for the pandemic situations to be dealt with, many people chose to marry over a Zoom call, and it was practically unique in many ways.

One couple even held their ceremony inside the Animal Crossing, making the video games even more famous than it already was.

Revolutionizing Marriage Decor

The metaverse has opportunities for people to take their wedding expectations to a whole new level. Couples are provided with possibilities with no boundaries at all. More and more people are keen to take their wedding ceremonies into the metaverse to fulfill their unreal desires, which are nearly impossible in the real-life space. Couples can go wild with their wedding setups.

Work has been in progress to take up the guest lists to thousands in number, and the addition of gift registries in the form of NFTs can be expected soon. Couples can even plan a wedding on Planet Mars if they want to.

From venues, flowers, tablescapes, dresses, musical entertainment and anything at all, tcouples can fulfill their wishes in any way possible. The metaverse lets you live your eternal dream life.

If you are starting to feel like finding your match is becoming impossible, the metaverse has got your back with an alternative that could be life-changing.
