The controversial influencer had appeared in court to challenge his arrest on charges of rape, human trafficking and organized crime — with his lawyer arguing there was insufficient evidence to justify his time in custody.
Tate's brother Tristan and two Romanian women were also arrested by local officials in late December.
A judge had previously rejected the 36-year-old's appeal against a decision to extend his detention from 24 hours to 30 days, amid fears he could evade investigation by settling in a country that doesn't have an extradition agreement with Romania.
Tate was at the courthouse for most of the day, and arrived in handcuffs. The ruling arrived a few hours after he was taken away on Tuesday afternoon.
Posts protesting his innocence have continued to appear on his official Twitter account, which was reinstated soon after Elon Musk bought the social network. He was banned from other platforms over fears that his content is misogynistic. A tweet on Wednesday read:
"My whole life everyone called me paranoid. They said I work too hard. They said it was impossible. They said I was worried about nothing. They said I was at War with an enemy that didn’t exist. They said I was rushing for no reason. Today? They just say I was right."
Tate has even claimed that he has been attacked by "The Matrix" — and he appeared to attract support from Logan Paul who tweeted: "The Matrix is real. Pray you never become its target."
All of this led Tate, or one of his acolytes, to post:
"You are The Matrix. You are an agent. But The Matrix is cracking. And now you will pay the price."
Prosecutors allege the real people who have paid the price are six victims in a human trafficking case that saw them subjected to "acts of physical violence and mental coercion" — as well as sexual exploitation.
Some high-profile crypto influencers have been criticized for supporting Tate. He had created a website called "Hustler's University" that offered education on how to make income by trading digital assets, but skeptics have likened this platform to a scam and a pyramid scheme.
