Metaplanet has announced the acquisition of an additional 68.59 BTC, increasing its total Bitcoin holdings to approximately 2,100 BTC.
This latest purchase, valued at about $6.6 million, was made at an average price of $96,335 per Bitcoin, according to the company’s latest disclosure.
The firm, which went public in Japan, has maintained a bullish stance on the cryptocurrency market. Since April 2024, when it outlined its Bitcoin strategy, Metaplanet has been actively accumulating Bitcoin, rising significantly from its holdings of just 141 BTC at the end of June 2024. Currently, the firm holds around 0.01% of the total Bitcoin supply.
Metaplanet has ambitious plans, as it aims to expand its holdings to 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025, and 21,000 BTC by the close of 2026. The firm’s commitment to Bitcoin comes amid a broader interest in cryptocurrencies among institutional investors.
In related market activity, Metaplanet’s stock closed at 6,290 yen (approximately $41.89) on Thursday, reflecting a gain of 2.78%. Since the start of the year, the company's stock has increased by 80.75%, over the past six months it has surged 427.24%.
This growth contrasts the Nikkei 225 index, which experienced a decline of 1.24% on the same day.
